Love is Not Enough

Sometimes your heart is broken by a lie

You know the sad thing’s they don’t even try

All the grains of grace are flowing thru life’s sieve

While you’ve given everything you’ve got to give 

That’s really so insane  it blows your mind

That this game is being played on your own time

The sad stories that you’re told are just a bluff

And sometimes love is not enough

The art of self deception has destroyed

All the sacrifices made- they're null and void

It’s ravaged every truth you’ve ever known

And nothing comes of all the mercies shown

You’re left alone  with the wreckage wrought

There in a place that you never sought

They say the tough get going when the going gets tough 

But sometimes love is not enough 

This ode to disappointment may not yield

Answers to the pain that is concealed

Or any sense of satisfaction or relief

There where your soul is groaning in its grief

To be a martyr never was my plan

But here I am a victim of my own hand

Cause I ain’t made of no heroic stuff

And sometimes love is not enough
