The Fiery Love of God

When I am thinking on the deep

Wondering if I'm a goat or sheep

Have I sought to please men?

Have I minimized my sin?

Do I trust my own devices

And am I easily fooled?

I think so highly of myself-

Is it by Christ I'm being ruled?...

Delight me in what delights You

Set my mind on things above

Delight me in what delights you

Then your Son and others I will love

When I am thinking on the deep

I pray thee Lord my soul to keep

Have I often sought to strive?

Did I forget why I'm alive?

Do I worship friends and family

Or are my idols all my stuff?

Am I modern Pharisee-

Will I never get enough?

Delight me in what delights You

Set my mind on things above

Delight me in what delights you

Then your Son and others I will love

Lord give me greater things to move me

Give me ponderings so strong

That I burn my wood and stubble

Then for You alone I'll long!

Please forgive and not expel me

Pray perfect me for I'm flawed

Give me purpose and indwell me

With the fiery Love of God!
