Wounded for the Broken

Inescapable darkness
Had fallen on all men
But steadfast love and faithfulness
Falls harder on our sin
So you came to put on flesh
Came down to bloody earth
Condescending in the crèche
To cleanse it by your birth

Dawn will break upon us
The Son of Righteousness shall rise
because of the tender mercy of our God,
The light shall illuminate our eyes
To shine on those living in darkness
From chains of captivity release
Those who sit in the shadow of death,
Guide our feet into the path of peace.

Wounded for the broken So we could be lifted up
You were lifted up before us And so we lift this cup
Priceless blood of Jesus Your holy cup of grace
Was poured down on the altar Our suffering you embraced

Bridge
Eternal word that became flesh
Condescending in the crèche
Glory limited by choice
Wrath bearer with an infant’s voice
Our righteousness has been fulfilled
While sin’s wages devastated men
He became a ransom
And his righteousness covered our sins.

Wounded for the broken So we could be lifted up
You were lifted up before us And so we lift this cup
Priceless blood of Jesus Your holy cup of grace
Was poured down on the altar Our suffering you embraced
