You came to us without external pomp or power
And yet the world was stirred by your advent
Only a few could survive your winnowing fan
For you were rejected though you were heaven sent
What will your second coming bring in judgment?
What sinner can the reckoning endure?
You will strike the earth with the rod of your mouth
And with your breath the wicked’s death is sure
Who can endure the day of his coming … ?
Who can withstand the wrath of the Lord?
Only the blood washed children of promise
For all of the wicked are lost evermore!
The beloved blood bought children look to the eastern skies
To look for His appearing on the day that they arise
And we shall endure, our calling and election sure,
As we long for the day redemption draweth nigh
Your death once shook the earth and darkened heaven
What will be the splendor of your return?
When you summon all the living and the dead before your throne
To rise in victory or to the lake of fire to burn
For though you do not break the bruised reed nor snuff the wick
You will break your enemies with an iron rod
And though a lamb, the lion will in pieces tear its prey
None will stand before the tempest of the wrath of God
But who can endure the day of his coming … ?
Who can withstand the wrath of the Lord
Only the blood washed children of promise
For all of the wicked are lost evermore
Bridge: For the blessed hope is coming with healing in His wings
On the day of his appearing with joy we shall sing
The beloved blood bought children look to the eastern skies
To look for His appearing on the day that they arise
And we shall endure, our calling and election sure,
As we long for the day redemption draweth nigh
