Song of the Victor

Victory Cenotaph

If you're facing persecution

If there’s conflict in your mind

Engaged in spiritual warfare,

Dangers rise before, behind

The Lord of angel armies

With His holy heavenly hosts

Will deliver and protect you

Will deliver and protect you

He'll deliver and protect you

So in our Captain we shall boast

It is God who fights our battle

And our Jesus  wins the war

So when Satan rages cruelly

Know the battle is the Lord’s

It is God who is our victory

He is for us, evermore

So no foe prevails against us

So no foe prevails against us

So no foe prevails against us

For the battle is the Lord’s

Now put on the mighty armor

The breastplate and the shield

To bring down lofty arguments

So to fight and never yield

Don the helmet of salvation

Don the belt, the shoes, the sword

For our Warrior King leads onward

For our Warrior King leads onward

Yes, our Warrior King leads onward

And the battle is the Lord’s

It is God who fights our battle

And our Jesus  wins the war

So when Satan rages cruelly

Know the battle is the Lord’s

It is God who is our victory

He is for us, evermore

So no foe prevails against us

So no foe prevails against us

So no foe prevails against us

For the battle is the Lord’s

Crooked Man

There was a crooked man and he had a crooked soul

He bought a crooked cottage in a crooked hellhole

It has some crooked stairs that lead up to a crooked room

And when he dies they’ll put him in a crooked little tomb

This world twists men into its norm

They contort their souls and so conform

With caustic hearts and crippled minds

And so, best bleed the lie that blinds

The crooked man, woe to the crooked man

There is a crooked man with a crooked attitude

He does some crooked things when he’s in a crooked mood

He walks a crooked path on a wide and crooked route

And though they try no one has ever straightened him out

Bridge

Woe be to me the crooked man

I must admit I am what I am

Jesus, come and claim and make me straight

Deliver me from my forever crooked fate

Oh God save the crooked man

God bless this crooked man

There was a crooked man and he sinned some crooked sins

He plans his crooked plans and he caves to crooked men

But a crooked man can come to consider and to cast

His contorted soul and careless heart and conflicted past

On grace that saved a crooked man

Oh God save the crooked man

Oh God bless the crooked man

Redeemed

I would rather be ashes than dust…

I’d rather be worn out and used all my days

Than to see all my ways turn to rust

I would rather burn out in a brilliant blaze

The way I was made is not what I will be

If I set my eyes on eternity

I’ll redeem my time He’ll redeem my ways

In the Living Vine and the Ancient of Days

I would rather be fire than smoke

I’d rather be together than apart

I’d rather be wizened than woke

I would rather be kind than smart

Bridge

I was one way and now I am not

Changed by a truth that I never sought

Now, not my own I will give all I’ve got

To follow and  walk in the light

Ready to fight the good fight

The way I was made is not what I will be

If I set my eyes on eternity

I’ll redeem my time He’ll redeem my ways

In the living vine and the Ancient of Days

In the Living Vine and the Ancient of Days

Dark Waters

I was dweller in a dark dream

Fumbling in my fantasy

Suffering In a silent scream

Lost and mired in a mystery

My life unfolded in spirals of time

Like an unholy scroll

Circles of sevens and uneven rhyme

Trying till time took its toll

Here in the deep waters

I don’t want to go it alone

Here in the dangerous deep

Places I’ve never known

Here in the dark waters

Here in the deep deluge

His sons and his daughters

Will find their refuge

Bridge

I was drowning in the undertow

I couldn’t call for help

You reached down to the depths below

And saved me from that hell

When I felt you draw me out

I did not resist at all

All that I could think about

Was gratitude as I recall

Here in the deep waters

I don’t have to go it alone

In the dangerous deep

Places I’ve never known

Here in the dark waters

Here in the deep deluge

His sons and his daughters

Will find their refuge

So Many Times

So many times I’ve been distressed

There’ve been so many times

Times of trials and of tests

Times of reasons and rhymes

Times of reasons and rhymes

Times will pass They cannot last

Every epoch returns to dust

The present turns into the past

Times will change for change they must

Times will change for change they must

Times of darkness times of light

When the darkness to light yields

Times of grounding, times of flight

When sheaves arise from fallow fields

When sheaves arise from fallow fields

Don’t surrender your humanity

Presuppositions are undone

So many times we choose captivity

But a time for hope will come

But a time for hope will come

Cause in the dark light is beckoning

So set your vision on that sight

Every day’s a day of reckoning

So sing the truth with all your might

So sing the truth with all your might

Times will pass They cannot last

Every epoch returns to dust

The present soon turns into the past

Times will change for change they must

Times will change for change they must

Times of darkness times of light

When the darkness to light yields

Times of grounding, times of flight

When sheaves arise from fallow fields

When sheaves arise from fallow fields

Watch and Pray

Fumbling, stumbling in the darkness

Waiting while anticipating dawn

I'm setting my eyes upon the horizon

Trusting the sun will arise ere long

At times I’m oppressed by the starkness

Of how evil pervades what once was peace

I’ll set my mind on the above and beyond

Knowing that one day the sin will cease

But till that day, till that day

But till that day-I will watch and pray

But till that day, till that day

But till that day-I will watch and pray

Sometimes I’m driven to distraction

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak

Step by step I’ll keep in step with the Spirit

Till I enter that city for which I seek

But till that day, till that day

But till that day-I will watch and pray

But till that day, till that day

But till that day-I will watch and pray

So I’ll cast myself headlong on grace

Until I see the glory in Jesus’ face

But till that day, till that day

But till that day-I will watch and pray

But till that day, till that day

But till that day-I will watch and pray
