WHEN THE DAY OF TOIL IS DONE

The original words were written by John Ellerton in 1870.They still speak to me today, so I have adapted them to a new song.

When the day of toil is done,
When the race of life is run,
Father, grant your wearied one
Rest forevermore.

When the strife of sin is stilled,
When the foe within is killed,
Be your gracious Word fulfilled:
Peace forevermore.

When the darkness melts away
At the breaking of the day,
There where glory lights the way:
Light forevermore.

Lord, in Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Lord, in Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

When the heart by sorrow tried,
Feels at length its pain subside,
Bring us, where all tears are dried,
Joy forevermore.

When for vanished days we yearn,
Days that never can return,
Teach us in Your love to learn
Love forevermore.

When the breath of life has flown,
When the grave must claim its own,
May we live before your throne,
Life forevermore.

Lord, in Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Lord, in Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
