Desolate Places

Praying in the wilderness amidst the famine’s blight

In this place of desolation, we seek for the light

In the valley of the shadows We stumble and may fall

In our desperation on the Lord we call

He meets us in our dismay

In this dreaded place he stands

In desolate places He is the Way

A respite in a dry and weary land

We learn new ways of mercy

We learn of unknown graces

When we are devastated

In the desolate places

Desperate and begging in our hunger and our thirst

Bankrupt and devastated when this world has done its worst

We languish like a leper, in this desolate place

We cry out for mercy and cast ourselves on grace

The sinner’s desperation

Deformed and unclean

Our Savior touches lepers

And we know what healing means.

We learn new ways of mercy

We learn of unknown graces

When we are devastated

In the desolate places
