Unless You Lift Us Up

Oh how the mighty are fallen
The haughty are ever brought low
And that is where you will meet us
Where those whom in humility bow
Lord give us grace when we stumble
Lord give us mercy each day
We are too proud to be humble
Unless you will show us the way

Unless you lift us up we shall surely fall
Unless you give us strength we’d have no strength at all
To you our providence we lift salvations cup
But we could never drink unless you lift us up

Jesus you came down to serve us
Be our wisdom when we doubt
Lord by your power preserve us
The contrite you’ll never cast out
Without you we can do nothing
Even our great feats are loss
Our empty hands fill with power
That comes from the grace of the cross

We cast ourselves headlong on grace
We surrender and you intercede
No one else will plead our case
Your love is what we all need
The Father draws us near
For mercy is found here
Here in this ponderous place
Here in this place of grace
Where you cleanse the corrupt
At the cross where you were lifted up.

Unless you lift us up we shall surely fall
Unless you give us strength we’d have no strength at all
To you our providence we lift salvations cup
But we could never drink unless you lift us up
Lord we shall never stand unless you lift us up.
We would have no life unless you lift us up.
