God,
who in various methods told
His
mind and will to saints of old,
Sent
down his Son, with truth and grace,
To
teach us in these latter days.
God's
very
thoughts
are now expressed,
Able
to make us wise and bless'd;
The
doctrines are divinely true,
Fit
for reproof and comfort too.
And
we have the more
sure
Word
So
attend to the Truth that has been conferred
Like
a
lamp and
the dawn it drives out the dark
Till
the morning star arises
in your hearts
'Twas
by an order from the Lord
The
ancient prophets spoke his Word;
Oh
Spirit, come,
our tongues
inspire,
And
warm our
hearts with that holy fire.
Your
children
heed
what they have heard
That
book of Life,
Your
written
Word,
The
bright inheritance of heav'n
It
is by grace that it was given
Now
we
have the more
sure
Word
So
attend to the Truth that has been conferred
Like
a
lamp and
the dawn it drives out the dark
Till
the morning star arises
in your hearts
Great
God, our
eyes with pleasure look
Upon
the
volume
of the
book;
There
we
see our
Redeemer's face
And
read that He died in
our place!
Let
the false raptures of our
sin
Be
lost, and vanish in the wind;
Here
we
can fix our
hope secure;
This
is thy word, and must endure.
For
we have the more
sure
Word
So
attend to the Truth that has been conferred
Like
a
lamp and
the dawn it drives out the dark
Till
the morning star arises
in your hearts
