I sing my Savior's wondrous death, He conquered when he
fell:
It is finished! said his dying breath, And shook the gates
of hell.
It is finished! our Immanuel cries, The dreadful work is
done;
Hence shall his sovereign throne arise, His kingdom is
begun.
It is finished! It is finished! The sin-bearer is forsaken,
It is finished! It is finished! The penalty he Himself has
taken
The results of His suffering will satisfy -God’s wrath shall
be appeased
Our sins forgiven, hell subdued, so partake of pardon and
peace!
Here at the cross of Calvary, The altar and the lamb
proclaim
And prophets in their visions see Salvation through his
righteous name.
The holy place has been unveiled, Since Christ has made us
free;
Our tyrants to his cross he nailed, And bought our liberty.
It is finished! It is finished! The sin-bearer is forsaken,
It is finished! It is finished! The penalty on Himself was
taken
The results of His suffering satisfy -and the Father’s wrath
appeased
Our sins forgiven, hell subdued, so partake of Heav’nly
peace!
For at the place they called the Skull, The serpent’s skull
was crushed
The cross has pierced the crust of earth and blood covered
the dust
And so the blood still covers , the precious blood atones
Our substitute has made it so; This could be done by Christ
alone
Bridge: Hallelujah! Tetelestai! Behold the Lamb of God!
The death penalty is repealed
Christ died for our sins that we might die to sin
By His wounds you are now healed.
It is finished! It is finished! The sin-bearer is forsaken,
It is finished! It is finished! The penalty on Himself was
taken
The results of His suffering satisfy -and the Father’s wrath
appeased
Our sins forgiven, hell subdued, so partake of Heav’nly
peace!
