The Road

This is a strange and thorny road,
And mortal spirits tire and faint
If we forget our mighty God,
Who feeds the strength of every saint.
O may our feet pursue the Way
With mercy our hearts gird.
With love and holy zeal obey
The counsels of your Word.

Our mighty God! Who gives us strength To run our race and finish well
To  keep our pace no matter its length Till to this world we say farewell.

Oh be our comfort, mighty God!
Our helper and our stay;
Don’t leave us on this dangerous road,
Deliver us we pray.
Awake, our souls; away, our fears,
Let every trembling thought begone;
Awake, and run the heav'nly race,
And put a stalwart courage on.

Our Mighty God! Who e’er sustains Give us endurance to progress
Guide us while this road remains Lead us in paths of righeousness

From Christ, the overflowing spring,
Our souls shall drink a fresh supply,
While such as trust their native strength
Shall melt away, and fade, and die.
Swift as an eagle cuts the air,
We'll mount aloft to your abode
On wings of love our souls shall fly,
Nor tire amidst the heav'nly road.

Our Mighty God! Oh lead us home Whan we come to our journey’s end
Nevermore this road to roam When Heaven’s gates we’ll enter in.

After Isaac Watts
Isa. 40:28-31.
