New Fire

Kindle a fervor inside of me

Consume the wood stubble and hay

In a bonfire of my vanities

That burns within my bones each day

You placed that burning in my heart

When you ignited a new desire

You are the one who made it start

For you are a consuming fire

So make the heartfires burn

And stoke the fire anew

The heat and light for which I yearn

Still finds its source in you

At times my wick just smoulders

But you will not quench the spark

As I am getting older

I pray the light casts out what’s dark

Feed the fire till it grows higher

Fan the spark to flame

Feed the fire the burning desire

To make your way my aim

Bridge

As you let your cauldron blaze

Remove my deadly dross

Set a wildfire of your praise!

Ignite a holy holocaust

So make the heartfires burn

And stoke the fire anew

The heat and light for which dr i yearn

Still finds its source in you
