Bloody Cross, Holy Cross

Darkest of darkness you covered the land

Three hours times two the sun hid away

It could not look up on the obscene man

And his bloody garments were the object of play

The skies came alive with lightning and thunder

But it could not drown out the screams

The earthquake tore the tombs asunder

In what looked like nightmarish dreams

Bloody Cross, Holy Cross

The greatest treasure was counted as loss

For infinite sin required  infinite cost

There on the bloody cross

And a spear must thrust into a heart

And blood and water flowed

And I am one who would play the part

The Scapegoat took over the debt I owed

Bridge

As the Lamb was forlorn

The curtain was torn

Then true holiness was defined

And there God's righteousness we find

Bloody Cross, Holy Cross

The greatest treasure was counted as loss

For infinite sin required  infinite cost

There on the bloody cross
