For Your Glory and My Good

Beneath a heavy darkness, there my sad soul and I stood

I thought I sought to find my way, but I must have misunderstood

Wondering and pondering the meaning of my present reality

My broken strength, my fragile heart, had nothing left for me

But then You pulled back the curtain

And let Your light break through the veil

The majesty of who You are, making the truth certain

And I see the wisdom in the fact that you sometimes bid me fail

For Your glory and my good, it’s all for Your name’s sake

The cross reveals the greatest love, the path that I should take

In every tear, in every joy, Your promise stands secure

Your glory is my highest good, forever to endure.

The valley of the shadows becomes a fertile place

Where in every shadow wisdom grows and yields more Grace

My smoldering wick You did not quench, nor crush my bruised reed

But shaped the trial to match the cure, and meet my deepest need.

Bridge:

What a wonder, what a mystery, the goodness I have known

My joy is found in trusting in the One upon the throne

Where You reveal the secret things that can be understood

For when You reap Your full renown, I find my greatest good

For when You pull back the curtain

And let Your light break through the veil

The majesty of who You are, making the truth certain

And I see the wisdom in the fact that you sometimes bid me fail

For Your glory and my good, it’s all for Your name’s sake

The cross reveals the greatest love, the path that I should take

In every tear, in every joy, Your promise stands secure

Your glory is my highest good, forever to endure.
